Seems like our Fridays lately have consisted of nothing but f-u-n. This past one started out with Hoe Down in Vowel Town with the kindergartners at Towns' school. It was definitely a knee slappin', toe tappin' good time! So far this year, they've spent weeks learning all about vowels. And since they're ready to move on to the other 21 letters of the alphabet, naturally they had to have a vowel celebration to round it out!
We put on our cowgirl best and mosied on over to church bright and early...
I kept calling it the Hoe Down Throw Down and that just drove Towns crazy. I really couldn't help it. I guess that's the Hannah Montana in me.
These outlaws of Vowel Towns were posted at the door...
Wanted: Towns "The Drifter" McClendon...
If you have a sec, you should click on the picture of all of them because they're pretty funny to read. Cute, cute!
The Hoe Down was nothing short of a room full of games that tested the outlaws' vowel knowledge. Towns' first stop was a game with Mrs. Jonica where she had to ride her horse around the obstacle course to find vowels...
The 2 classes were divided up and everyone had a partner to move with from station to station. Towns and Josie were partners in crime...
They had 5 minutes at this game before Mrs. Pace rang the cowbell to let them know it was time to move on. She hollered "roooootate" and the children answered back with "ooooookay" (in extremely sweet, drawn-out voices) which was possibly the cutest thing I've ever heard.
Next, they had to find the letters of their name in the haystack and pick out how many vowels their name has. Towns was obviously in deep thought over it...
The cowgirls stopped at our station after they were done with the haystack. They mounted their horses and had a few vowel cows to lasso. We called out words and they had to lasso the vowel that word started with...
I didn't realize those horses moved and made real horse noises. Until they started up and nearly gave me a mild heart attack! Josie and Towns in action...
Their last stop was Buckaroo Bingo...
The kids gave us a little show around the campfire after the games were over. They sang a few cowboy songs and completely melted my heart...
We snapped a few more pictures before we rode off into the sunset...
{All I see when I look at that picture are the bags under my eyes. Sleep is a thing of the past apparently.}
By this point in the day the fun had just begun...we had a fabulous play date at the park and a homecoming parade to look forward to. It was quite a day!!
